Gambit Chess Studio cannot connect to store problem

Some users, especially in the UK, are currently unable to connect to the store while using Gambit Chess Studio. The app will try to connect for some time and then give the error message ‘Cannot connect to server (Server error)’. This problem started on Tuesday 24th March.

The cause of this error is a major problem at a well-known British Internet company. Data moving through the Internet often passes through a number of computers before reaching its destination. When the app tries to connect to the Gambit server, if the route taken happens to pass through the servers at this company the messages will be sent into a loop and never reach the Gambit server.

There isn’t much users or Gambit can do to alleviate the problem and we just have to be patient until it is fixed. However, here are a few tips:

1) If you have more than one way to connect to the Internet, try the alternative. For example, although the app fails when I connect via broadband, it still works for me via a 3G connection.

2) Don’t delete any books using the trashcan, as you won’t be able to re-download them until the problem is fixed.

3) Although you cannot connect to the store, the rest of the app still functions and you can still enjoy the books you have already downloaded. Accessing these books does not need an active Internet connection.
